Creating a Universe Folder and Connection with the Designer Tool

To create a universe folder, you need to use the Designer tool. For more information on Designer, please refer to the BusinessObjects Designer’s Guide, which is available at http://help.sap.com/boall_en/.

Note.pngYou can also create a universe folder using the CMC by right-clicking the root folder in Universes and adding a new folder.

To create universes with the Designer tool:

1.    Open the universe design tool Designer.

Note.pngYou can access Designer by selecting Start > BusinessObjects XI 3.1 > BusinessObjects Enterprise.

2.    Enter the login information and click OK.

3.    From the main menu, select File > Export.

4.    Click Browse.

5.    Right-click the server name (on the first line).

6.    Select New Folder.

7.    Rename the folder to “PPRO.”

8.    Set the default user group’s access to View on Demand.

9.    Set the group’s access to NO ACCESS.

10.  Open the universe design tool Designer if it is not already open.

11.  From the main menu, select Tools > Connections.

12.  Click Add and then click Next.

13.  From the tree, select Microsoft > MS SQL Server 2008 > ODBC Drivers.

14.  Click Next.

15.  Select the Type “Secured” and select the Name “PPRO.”

16.  Enter the user name, password, and ODBC Data Source Name which you have used for reporting.

17.  Click Next.

18.  Click Test Connection.

19.  Make sure the server responds and click Next.

20.  Assign rights to the default universe folder:

·            The default admin should have Full Control.

·            The default group should have View on Demand.

21.  From the Personify Application, perform the following:

a.    Open the Configure and Verify Interfaces (APP014) screen and click Setup Global Parameters.
The Interface Parameter Maintenance screen displays.

b.    Enter the names of the universe connection and universe folder you just created into the UNIVERSECONNECTION and UNIVERSEFOLDER fields.
